One of the Best Selling Automobiles
The Focus made lots of headlines for all the good reasons throughout its life, motoring journalists continued to rave after Ford’s newly found success story, including on notable motoring platforms such as Top Gear and Men & Motors at the time. This continued through its production life and way beyond until this very day.
Since it was launched the MK1 Focus won over 60 awards, this included 13 car of the year awards in Europe and North America. Something which no other car has achieved to date. In 2000 the Focus won Automobile magazine “Automobile of the Year”. In 2003 in Autocar magazine it was voted the best family car and subsequently a decade later in 2013 it was voted by Auto Express readers as the best car of the last 25 years!
The Focus was globally more successful than was ever imagined during that nervous gestation period. In North America it continued to be in the top ten most sold cars through its production over there, a real triumph considering the historic difficulties European manufacturers faced trying to ingress in the market.

The MK1 Focus was possibly the world’s best selling car between 1999 and 2004. Although no exact number can be confirmed for certain markets, it is strongly believed that around 5.2 million were produced during its 10 year production run, the remaining being produced in late 2008 for some markets. Exactly 3.3 million were from Europe, 1.7 million from North America and the remainder from markets around the globe.
Only a handful of single-generation cars have achieved near this figure within such a timeframe. This places the car firmly amongst the best selling automobiles of all-time.
These are the many reasons why we believe the MK1 Focus is one of the greatest peoples’ cars of all time!
